Program Content

 

The Master in Management of Banking and consists of 16 courses (60 ECTS) split over six modules and completed within 20 months. Our program is completely executive-friendly. Classes take place in the evening and weekend (1 course every 3-4 weeks).

PREREQUISITE

Module Objective:

The courses will be taught by local professors appointed by the
National Economics University as the preparation for the program

 

The courses:

1. Financial accounting

Understanding accounting for businesses and financial institutions (prerequisite knowledge for IFRS and corporate finance courses)

 

2.Statistics

Master the basics in statistical and econometric tools & techniques for finance (prerequisite knowledge for corporate finance and financial markets courses)

FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT

Module Objective :

This module covers concepts, techniques and financial tools enabling to strategically manage and lead businesses to success and value creation

 

The courses:

1. Financial Analysis and Investment Decisions

– Perform a quick financial analysis of a company
– Make the right choice of investment appraisal method(s) and use Excel efficiently as a support to decision making
– Manage an investment decision making process

 

2. IFRS Reporting Reporting

– Understand the IFRS conceptual framework and its impact on financial reporting

– Be able to account for certain complex transactions under IFRS

– Be able to prepare consolidated financial, statements and the statement of cash flows under IFRS

 

3. Business Planning and Business Intelligence

-Identify and efficiently gather relevant business information

-Understand the critical role of business information in managing strategic change

-Manage business information in the banking industry

FINANCE

Module Objective:

This module equips participants with a solid, state-of-the-art and practical understanding of the functioning of local, regional, and international financial markets and products (including valuation methods and the use of products for risk management purposes)

 

The courses:

1. Financial Markets and Instruments

-Value core financial securities, such as stocks, bonds, and derivatives

-Understand the relationship between risk and expected returns

-Compute the cost of capital of a company / project

 

2. Corporate Finance and Risk Management

-Understand the key missions of the CFO, i.e. the key policies of the firm, and their implementation

-Use advanced techniques for the appraisal of complex projects and the monitoring of corporate exposures, with the support of Excel

-Take managerial decisions upon this analysis for a global ALM view of the Firm

 

3. International Finance

-Understand key components of international financial markets
-Understand international financial regulations
-Understand emerging regional financial architecture (ASEAN and ASEAN + 3) and exposure to financial crises

BANKING

Module Objective:

This module covers the wide range of businesses of banks and financial institutions, including insurance companies; it gives participants a detailed overview of how financial institutions manage their business lines, risks, and regulatory aspects.

 

The courses:

1. Bank Management

-Understand the main balance sheet and income statement components of retail and commercial banks

-Perform a comprehensive diagnostic of a bank’s profitability, asset quality, liquidity and solvency

-Understand (sustainable) growth drivers of banks and risk management techniques focusing mostly on credit risk, interest rate risk and liquidity risk

 

2. Specialized Banking Businesses

-Understand non-core banking business models

-Be able to identify the key strategic assets necessary to each of the businesses

-Be able to assess the consequences of non-core businesses on the core banking business

 

3. Insurance and Asset Management

-Understand the basics of insurance business, pensions funds and asset management

-Make the link between insurance and finance concepts as duration, options and Asset Liability Management

-Be able to construct an investment portfolio

ADVANCED TOPICS IN BANKING AND FINANCE

Module Objective:

The main objective of this advanced module is to apply the knowledge of previous modules to concrete business issues, and to analyze and reflect on lessons learned from various parts of the world.

 

The courses:

1. Managing Growth and Challenges from the Financial Crisis

-Understand the meaning of “risk” in a financial institution or a bank
-Manage multiple types of risks in the banking industry in a growing / declining environment

-Cope with the banking regulation and make critical recommendations on relevant policies

 

2. Managing Financial Strategies

-Apply the concepts of financial analysis

-Understand the various facets of the role of the financial director

-Explain internal and external growth strategies

 

3. Managing Real Estate Investments

Understand the international professional property investment market

Understand the property valuation processes

Assess key differences between investment vehicles

 

4. Managing Social Banking

-Understand the particularities of social finance or hybrid (with multiple goals) institutions

-Analyze and assess social finance or hybrid Institutions

-Manage social finance and more particularly microfinance Institutions

 

5. Issues in Strategy, Regulation and Governance of Financial Institutions

Develop a critical opinion on the main questions facing banks, their management, boards and shareholders

Understand the main issues of risk management for banks, and the notion of strategic risk management;

Cope with regulatory and governance rules in practice as well as in theory

FINAL PROJECT

In their Final Project, students working in teams of 3 conduct a research project in order to solve a real “Western” business case on the topic of their choice. They then choose a local company (from Vietnam / South-East Asia) facing related business issues, on which they write their own business case and provide real-life recommendations. Participants are coached throughout the process. They expected to ultimately demonstrate their problem-solving skills using course concepts and showing their personal evolution.

This action-oriented work is finalized in the form of a written report and oral presentation (business-like) in front of a jury including finance professionals.

– Recognized university bachelor degree and transcript
– 3 years professional experience is preferable
– Proficiency in English (TOEFL 530, IELTS 6.0 or TOEIC 650 or equivalent evidence)
