Master in Business Quality & Performance Management (MBQPM)
In today’s highly competitive and globalized world, organizations can only survive and prosper if they are able to deliver products and services that satisty their customers and stakeholders while meeting the needs of society as a whole and preserving the environment.
The Master in Business Quality and Performance Management (MBQPM) is designed to train present and future managers in industry and services to understand and master organizational processes and to improve organizational performance through the use of quality, control and improvement principles and tools to ensure their organization’s sustainability and their own success.
This program is operated by the Solvay Brussels School of Economics and Management (Université Libre de Bruxelles) in partnership with the Ho Chi Minh City Open University.
Who should attend?
Candidates have a university degree (any field can be considered) and good English skills, working in quality control, production, R&D, marketing and sales, human resources, finance, both in industry and services, as technicians, engineers or managers, and wish to benefit by a cross-functional approach of the management of their organization (2 years’ professional experience minimum).
Candidates must show an interest in boosting their careers in management regardless of their current position. Communication, leadership, analytical skills will be appreciated.
Candidates will acquire top-level knowledge from 100% Western-educated professors and experts, that will enable them to increase the overall performance of their organization leading to quick promotion and salary increases
What will you learn?
The Master in Business Quality and Performance Management consists of 252 contact hours of evening or week-end classes (6 to 9 PM week days or week-end daytime) spread over a 20 months’ period.
The program comprises 12 modules of 21 hours each followed by a final professional project.
I. Understanding quality and performance:
· Strategy and business environment
Strategy process, strategic approaches (LCAGHarvard, Mintzberg, Porter, Kaplan & Norton…), strategy deployment, strategy and quality, competition, value chain, competitive advantage, tools (PESTEL, SWOT…), international environment (trade, WTO, globalization, culture).
· Quality Management Systems
Definition of quality, history of quality, principles, QMS (ISO), performance measurement, continuous improvement.
· Project Management
Organization, process approach, information flow, management, phases in project management, project management processes (controlling, improving), project management procedure.
· Business Excellence Models and Integrated management systems
Definition of excellence, business ecosystem, differentiation, business excellence models (Deming, Baldrige, EFQM, 6 sigma, BSC…) integrated management systems (quality, environment,health and safety, risk, working environment, sustainable development).
· Economic Intelligence and Knowledge Management
Approaches of EI/KM (psychological, technological, organizational…), codified knowledge, process supporting knowledge, knowledge creation, collection of economic intelligence, treatment and use of economic intelligence.
· Sustainable development
Conditions of development, limitations of growth, principles and stakes of sustainable development, modes of sustainable development, ethics, corporate social responsibility.
II. Monitoring quality and performance:
· Process management
Effectiveness and efficiency, decision-making tools, planning tools, measurement, risk control, problem solving.
· Service Quality
Service stakes, customer relationship management, customer satisfaction.
· Supply Chain Management
Strategic purchasing, contracting, procurement function, suppliers, intermediaries, ‘best practice’ purchasing, buyers-suppliers relationships, risks.
· Human Resource Management
Human resource strategy for quality and performance, selection, recruitment and appraisal, communication, empowerment and involvement, training and development, teams and teamwork, human resources total quality models.
· Innovation Management
Nature and typology of innovation, new productand service development (NPD), approaches tomanagement of NPD, role of design and marketing,role of innovation, evaluation of productinnovation, integration with business partners.
· Performance evaluation and continuous improvement
Types of performance (economic, strategic,social…), measurement of performance, assessmentmodels, audits, continuous improvement,sustained success.
III. Implementing quality for performance:
· Professional project
The final professional project offers students the opportunity to conduct a management research project in real conditions where they will demonstrate their analytical skills ans ability to solve management problems. The project will be finalized in the form of written report and an oral presentation.
- Recognized university bachelor degree
- At least 2 years of professional experience
- Proficiency in English (TOEFL 530, IELTS 5.5 or TOEIC 600 or equivalent evidence)
- Pass the admission process.

3. Application screening
The co-directors of the program reserve the rights to discard some candidates if their application doesn’t meet program standards
4. On-campus assessment
Shortlisted candidates after application will take a written test
Interviews will take place in front of a mixed jury of professors from HCMC Open University and Solvay Brussels School
Time: about 1 – 2 weeks after deadlines. Notification will be given upon application submission
5. Admission results
One week after the admission test
6. Program commencement
In April 2018
This program is not launched in Hanoi in 2017.
